WHAT IS A BESPOKE TRIATHLON TRAINING PROGRAMME?

Bespoke Triathlon Training Programmes are an affordable means of having a customised, totally unique training programme that is designed for you and considers:

  • YOUR history
  • YOUR strengths and weaknesses,
  • YOUR time available to train, 
  • YOUR goals

Get the benefit of expert input to your training so you have the confidence that you are getting the most out the time you have to train.

Unlike generic downloadable programmes, our bespoke triathlon training programmes:

  1. Take into consideration your strengths and weaknesses
  2. Allow for a changeable work or home schedule
  3. Are focusing on your specific goals

All training programmes are designed and written by performance coach, Mark Pearce (Level 3 BTF Coach). 

Over the past 20yrs of involvement in triathlon, Mark has been a Performance Scientist at 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games for the British Team, Coached triathlete Lucy Hall for London 2012 Olympic Games and coached numerous elite athlete in the ITU World Series. 

Since starting to work with non-drafting triathletes he has coached athletes such as Will Clarke, Lucy Hall, Kim Morrison, Sam Proctor and Alice Hector in the Pro ranks as well numerous AG athletes also striving to achieve their goals.  

HOW DOES IT WORK?

A bespoke programme is delivered in 8-week blocks, with the recommended minimum duration being 2 blocks, ie 16 weeks.  It involves:

  • An initial consultation with you to discuss:-
    • Goals and Objectives 
    • Events (future and past)
    • Training History
    • Injury History
    • Work & home life requirements
    • If necessary we will ask for some performance trial data to help inform your triathlon profile

  • A Performance Plan that outlines
    • SMART goals in collaboration with you
    • A race programme
    • SWOT analysis
    • Discipline-specific Performance Profiles created using advanced metrics in WKO5
    • A road map explaining the direction of your programme
    • Periodisation outline
      • This is a guide to the type and duration of training to come during the course of the programme
    • A video summary of your plan identifying key points

  • A premium Training Peak account to which the first 8 weeks of training is uploaded using sessions specifically for you, your requirements and the time available to train.  
    • To help understand the programme we record a screencast of the programme with voice over, explaining each session and where it fits, how to execute it etc. 
  • If appropriate we also have access to additional services that you can buy into, such as:-
    • S&C programming
    • Nutritional support
    • Physiology Assessment

 

This is the point where a Bespoke programme deviates from being coached by us.  In a Bespoke programme, you do NOT get

  • Feedback on sessions
  • Access to coaching to discuss the sessions or other issues

For the duration of the next 8 weeks,  you undertake the training programme to the best of your ability, if you need to adjust things a little then that is at your discretion.  

Approximately 10 days prior to the completion of the programme you book in using our online booking facility for a Review Meeting.  Ahead of this we will have a look over the training completed, and begin updating your performance plan.  You will also receive a questionnaire to provide feedback ahead of the meeting, which helps to form an agenda for the meeting giving us a framework from which to start the review. 

During the meeting, we will look over the complete plan, answer questions and generally review it against the initial aims.  We can then discuss moving forward and look to see whether we need to change anything, revise schedules etc. 

The Performance Plan is then updated and we repeat the process for the next 8 weeks.

WHAT IS THE COST?

There is a minimum of an 8-week commitment to the Bespoke Triathlon Training Programme.  Each 8-week Programme consists of:

  • Planning Meeting (60 – 90min)
  • Performance Profiling
  • Subscription to Training Peaks for the duration of your plan
  • 8-weeks of unique and customised training planning
  • A long term Performance Plan outlining the ‘big picture’

The cost of this is £100 every 4 weeks

We recommend a minimum commitment of 16-weeks to enable a longer-term plan to be undertaken.  We also require a 2-week notice period if you do not intend to continue after the completion of your programme.

We only take a limit number of clients on this programme.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are a few questions that we have been asked previously about the Bespoke Triathlon Training Programme

IF I COMMIT TO 16 OR MORE WEEKS CAN I STOP EARLY? + -

Yes, each commitment is for 8-weeks, at the end of this you can stop, however, you do need to give us 2-weeks notice that you will not be continuing.

IF SAY I WANT A MUCH LONGER PROGRAMME HOW DOES THIS HELP ME? + -

By indicating you wish to undertake this programme for longer it helps us to plan much more extensively.  Triathlon is a complicated sport with many areas you could focus upon.  Having a longer-term plan means we can schedule when we want to pay attention to certain areas, and cover a greater depth within the programme.

I WANTED FULL COACHING BUT YOU DONT HAVE ANY PLACES. + -

If we have no available Premium Coaching places available, this would be an option to begin working with us, until a coaching place becomes available.

If one comes available we will then offer it to you before we accept new clients. If more than once person has done this there will be a waiting list prioritised by first in.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE BESPOKE TRIATHLON TRAINING PROGRAMME? + -

At the end of your Bespoke Triathlon Training Plan, you have some options:

  1. Commit to a further plan – in which case we will schedule a review and planning meeting to continue the process
  2. Commit to a short plan – again we will schedule a debrief/planning meeting and continue the process
  3. End the programme.  It may be you no longer want to carry on, or your main goal has arrived and its time for some R&R.
  4. End the programme, but book a final debrief.  Using our meeting scheduling app you can book a final meeting where we can discuss the programme, implications for the future, plan your race – really whatever you need to discuss.

IF I REALLY NEED TO DISCUSS MY PROGRAMME, CAN I TALK TO MARK? + -

Yes, you can.  You can book an additional meeting via our booking app (at an additional coast) based upon the amount of time you think you need.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS

To improve the quality of the service we can provide we also offer some additional services that can enhance your experience

Physiology Testing + -

In conjunction with Loughborough University Sport Science service, we offer physiology testing and assessments to meet your demands. This could be:

  • A full physiology profile for running or cycling
  • A look at your fuelling requirements by testing to see how you break down carbs and fats
  • Are you racing in the heat? There are quite a few options we can work out to help manage this and improve performance.

As the requirements and time required vary, we can’t provide exact costs so please enquire if you would like more information.

Swimming 1:1 Coaching and Analysis + -

A 1:1 Swim Technique Analysis, performed at Loughborough University Pool. This session helps us to programme your swim plan more effectively as we can more efficiently plan technical and physical work, based upon your precise needs. For more info on the session, click here.

Nutrition Consultancy + -

Nutrition is a hot topic at the moment, and there is a lot of confusing and misleading information ‘out there’ in this informed age.

We use the highly experienced and qualified nutrition services of Loughborough University to provide a seamless plan based around your specific requirements and preferences.
